At Gin Gin State High School, we have a four day a week Chaplain,
Darren Lawrence. Our Chaplain is an integral part of the school and works as a
part of the Student Services team.
Darren has over 20 years’ experience in working with young
people in both the private and public sector and started in his role as
Chaplain with our school in 2003.
Scripture Union (SU)Australian Chaplains:
- Provides support in cases of bereavement, difficult family relationships, or other crisis and loss situations
- Provide emotional and social support for students
- Provide support and guidance in matters of religion, values and ethics
- Support students exploring their spirituality, regardless of the student's faith or beliefs
- Participate in school activities such as camps, sports, induction programs, leadership programs, and school ceremonies.
- Participate in and or facilitate holiday camps and activity programs
Chaplains work alongside other school staff and volunteers from the local community to:
- Build community development with local businesses and organisations and the school
- Foster a supportive and caring school community
Some of the programs that the Chaplain facilitates at Gin Gin State High School are:
- Mentoring both one on one and group mentoring
- Coordinates the school food program, providing students with access to free, basic nutritious food before school and during recess.
- Joining in extra-curricular activities within the school
- No Limits and Unlimited, potential enhancement programs
- Holiday camps
