Special Education Program
Gin Gin State High School offers a diverse Special Education Program (SEP) catering for all students with a disability. Our philosophy of establishing a positive relationship between staff, students and parents provides valuable learning experiences and access to all, allows students to become a valued member of our community. We provide an individualised program tailored to meet the needs of students offering support and encouragement through-out their high school years. Our SEP offers a broad selection of subjects and community-based learning opportunities such as work experience and real life, hands on experiences. Two specific courses we offer are:
Functional English
This course aims to foster success for students by further developing and reinforcing their functional language skills to help them critically evaluate the world around them. Students will have access to a significant level of support. The emphasis is on practical real-life learning experiences, where students use language to think, interpret and communicate effectively. The program has been specially designed to meet the needs of individual students and support the successful transition into fulltime work.
Functional Mathematics
This course has been designed for young adults in the senior phase of learning who have for many varying reasons not acquired the necessary numeracy skills to cope with the general demands of life at home, in paid work, and for participation in community and civic life. The subject aims to build student confidence and success with mathematics, and to develop students' abilities in thinking, reasoning, and working mathematically. The program has been specially designed to meet the needs of individual students and support the successful transition into fulltime work.
