ATA – Road Safety Exhibition

28/08/2017

Last Week our Year 11 and 12 students experienced the Trucking Industry Road Safety Exhibition as the big Volvo Rig rolled into Gin Gin State High School. Glenn Schmidtke imparted his wisdom from many years on the road to a captive audience.

The message had clearly sunk in when students interviewed delivered the following pearls of road safety wisdom.
  • Keep your eyes on the road and don’t get distracted – especially phones.
  • Keep your distance from Trucks – don’t try to beat them or sit behind them.
  • Trucks have a massive blind spot – keep out of it.
  • Speed limits are MAXIMUMS for PERFECT road conditions – slow down.
This current generation is easily distracted, with many more influences on attention span.
If you don’t feel comfortable on the road – stop and pull over.
Wise words indeed. We hope our students follow this advice in the near future, which is statistically the most dangerous time for them to be behind the wheel of a car.
